When we decided on the name of “Teachers Today, Students Forever” for this blog; the inspiration stemmed from our shared desired to grow, learn and accept new challenges in life! With that being said we both have some fun and exciting changes in our future!
A Quick Refresher of Where we Began:
To backtrack just a bit, we both started our careers as Teachers for children who are Deaf or hard of hearing. (To learn more about the job of a Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing CLICK HERE.) One of us took a position as an itinerant teacher of the Deaf and hard of hearing. The other started out in the field of Early Intervention. (Check out Early Intervention – The Basics for more information.) After trying our hands in different dynamics of Deaf Education, we both decided to take on additional challenges launching us into new adventures.
After becoming a substitute teacher in an elementary school I decided it would be nice to explore the idea of opening my options to regular education. I enrolled in a full semester of college classes and gained a certification in Early Childhood, PreK – 3rd grade, and Elementary, Kindergarten – 5th! Soon after I accepted an itinerant PreKindergarten position to finish out the year! And now, I am SO beyond excited to announce I have accepted a Kindergarten Position for this coming year!
This has brought on a whirlwind of emotions. I am not a first time teacher, but it is my first classroom! So there is an equal amount of excitement and panic! Luckily, I am able to stifle feelings of being thrown in the deep-end by reading so many wonderful, creative, and experienced teachers’ thoughts and tips in the blog community!
So far I have spent my summer browsing online resources, reading articles, printing, laminating, watching wonderful webinars, browsing garage sales, and making to-do lists out the wazoo! I am so grateful for all of you wonderful teachers out there sharing your encouragement and words of wisdom! I cannot wait to start organizing, creating and sharing ideas with you!!
Exciting News From Sonia
I recently saw a quote on social media that fits the life changes we both have made perfectly. “Always go with the choice that scares you the most, because that’s the one that is going to help you grow.” It’s never easy to make a change but sometimes its necessary; therefore, I have found that with the right support system, I was ready to throw myself into the deep-end and see if I can swim. Its been two years since I jumped in to my doctoral program and I can say with absolute certainty, it was one of the best decisions I have made. Of course, there have been moments of doubt and insecurities but as Dory says “just keep swimming”.
With that, I hope to start the research pertaining to my dissertation; stay tuned!
Through my studies, one thing that I am constantly learning as well as encouraging is collaboration. With this blog, we hope to inspire and encourage collaboration among all individuals in education (i.e., fellow educators, administrators, parents, students, etc). We are thrilled to be a member of the blogging community; thank you all for reading!!
